Hand painted Easter Greeting Cards now in stock! + why they exist.
I make greeting cards because I love to send (& receive!) them. Last year I thought, rather than always buying other peoples lovely designs I wanted to create my own too!
I have never sent an Easter card in my life, but my Granny asked if I’d be making them this year, and if so, she would like some.
I don’t normally take ‘commissions’, because my paintings are something I do just for me… but this is Granny!! So I wanted to explore what I could make.
My sister Anna & I spent every school half term, Easter break & Summer holiday with Granny & Granddad while our parents worked, so we were lucky to spend loads of time with them growing up, in Norwich and then in Devon where they lived.
Back then, any time we saw something, (anything really) that was beautiful or interesting, Granny would encouragingly say “you could paint that!!”, and I mostly thought to myself “why don’t YOU paint it!?!”.
It was said so much that it became a little bit of a joke between me and Anna, because I didn’t really want to paint anything and just wanted to enjoy things for what they were, instead of turning everything into a picture!
So in a way it’s nice now that I actually am painting, & I feel grateful for all her encouragement/pestering & glad that she gets to see that it’s finally happening!
I wanted to try making something for her this Easter, so thought about what I would like to paint for myself too… I’ve not really ventured into painting animals yet so this was quite a funny exploration… but I am quite happy with how they’ve come out… These were painted in my pad in goache paint, then I turned them digital, photoshopped the words by hand, and sent off to be printed.
I opened the package this morning. My partners first reaction was “they’re so fun!” and then”they’re a bit of a departure from your normal style!”, and they are. They are a little bit odd to me, but also kind of cute, and an experiment. Hopefully Granny will like them.
(I’ve just photographed them & popped them in my Etsy shop, so if you also happen to be in the market for some Easter Greeting cards or know someone who is, here’s the link: beckyruistudio.etsy.com)
