Playing with ink & finding ways to make during busier times

It’s been so nice to paint with ink and water again in recent weeks. I used to love doing this when I was younger! Painting feels so much simpler when there’s only one colour involved, no mixing of paints, it keeps the set-up basic and I don’t have to be concerned about good/consistent daylight. It means I can focus a bit more on technique and experimenting in new ways and fit in shorter painting sessions on busier days, which I am ALL ABOUT finding ways to do!

Playing with ink and water feels so flowy and expressive too... lots of unexpected and unpredictable outcomes emerge which is interesting to work with, and provides a lot of opportunities to get frustrated I mean let go of how I think it’s ‘supposed’ to turn out and BE in the process, as ‘making’ always does!

I love how these inks when mixed with water do dry with a bit of colour ‘refraction’, and I think it added to the mood in this pic and gave a slightly rainbowy effect.
