The key elements that make up my photography style
The *style* of the photographs we use in our businesses say something about us, as well as all the other elements that make up an image: our energy, the location, our outfits, the props we bring in, our body language etc.
How the style of a photograph looks & feels obvs has a lot to do with the settings of the camera taking it (e.g. the aperture, the type of lens), the editing style, the source of lighting, and of course the spirit that the image was made in; the photographers presence, their direction, eye and imagination.
My style has definitely evolved over the years but what’s always been important is that the imagery feels real and natural… like when you look at the photos of the people I work with, it’s as if you’re already hanging out, already in a moment with them, can hear their laugh or feel at home around them!
I used to edit with a more natural style but in recent years my shots have been getting richer (less washed out) and more colourful and contrasty.
Some of the things that make up my photography style are that…
📷 I almost always make portraits with a 50mm lens or a 35mm lens. The perspectives these lenses give feel close up and kind of like how we see with our actual eyes, to me.
🌞 I opt for natural light where possible and tend to recreate that effect indoors with extra lighting when needed.
💞 I bring a lot of intention to my shoots before the day and during the session, help to keep my clients tapped in to their WHY, so that we can keep bringing that vibe into their photos and feel energetically connected to their peeps!
☁️ I almost always shoot at f2, which gives all that lovely dreamy depth in the backgrounds and makes the person stand out, but gives a teeeeny bit of wiggle room compared to f1.4.
My photography outside of personal branding also feels this way to me… while I do edit with a colourful, contrasting and bold style, I still want things to feel like you could reach out and feel the textures and smell the smells!
These are a few pics from shoots with some of the amazing people I’ve had the joy of collaborating with over the last few years.
