Exploring creative expression - Nature Photography - Watersmeet, North Devon
I’ve often felt that some of the most magical settings involve waterfalls, rain, and curly trees (maybe it was all those Disney movies?) 🧚♀️ so it’s incredible to have access to this type of environment now that we live on Exmoor. It’s movingly beautiful.
I love getting out with my camera here, and I’m pretty sure I’ve shot more personal work in the past five months than I probably have in the last five years!! I feel lucky that we were able to follow this call to move.
Here are a few photos I made of the *ridiculous levels of beauty* at Watersmeet near Lynmouth the other weekend 😍
On this outing I tried shooting almost entirely ‘portrait’ as opposed to my usual landscape orientation. My observations of my surroundings shifted with this format in mind.
It can be good to play with new rules for fun to see how creativity gets to be expressed within less ‘default’ structures and modes. I also do this by only bringing one prime lens with me (no zoom etc) and seeing how that alters my perception and artistic choices when I don’t have the choice of wider or narrower angles.
What do you play with to explore your creative expression?
P.S. If you’re craving space for your creative practice and don’t know where to start, or are struggling to find the time, I would *love* for you to come to my next workshop on 11th June. We’ll explore what’s going on for you through potent journaling prompts and clarify what it is you need in order to move forward and express yourself through your art.
