Personal brand photography in London - Tad Hargrave - Marketing for Hippies
I had such a fun time shooting relaxed personal brand photography around Camden, London with Tad Hargrave, founder of Marketing for Hippies last month!
Tad and I met at the fantastic Happy Startup Summercamp in Sept 2023. It turned out he was heading to Exeter at the end of it all (where I’m based), so we shared a very fun road trip back to Devon. It was great to share good music and get to know each other better, somewhere amidst his busy UK travels before he headed home to Canada.
When Tad reached out about getting some photos taken on this most recent trip, I was delighted to collaborate!
I photographed part of his London event at the beautiful English Folk Dance & Song Society venue, followed by an evening of natural portraits around colourful Camden Town with the most gorgeous sunlight and wonderful friends/colleagues of Tads (who were a big support during our session)!
Before the day I asked Tad questions to get a better sense of the kinds of images that he’d most love to come away with, what was important to him and what would be most useful.
We aimed to create photographs that warmly welcomed his audience into his world and work, that felt super down-to-earth, friendly and relaxed.
He was mostly looking for candid-feeling portraits for his Youtube video thumbnails so ideally wanted them almost all horizontally framed, where he is to one side of the image, so I was sure to get plenty of these!
I normally aim to create a real mix of compositions as my clients use their shots in so many different ways, but I enjoyed working within the structure of this framing and exploring our locations and set-ups with this in mind.
It’s so important to think about where and how you’re going to be using your images from your shoot, so that you can communicate this with your photographer and ensure you come away from with the kinds of images that’ll best work for you! I really enjoyed this shoot with Tad and here are just a few of my many favourite images from our evening.
